Three In Oneness- The I Threes
The I-Threes were the most influential female singing group in the history of Jamaican music. In the early 1970’s Bob Marley asked the three women to sing on his recording "Jah Live and for the next ten years continued to work with Bob. They continued to perform together following Bob's death in 1981 and then all three women continued their established solo careers.
Marcia Griffiths In a career spanning four decades has earned her title 'The Queen of Reggae'. She has worked with many of Jamaica's greats and produced hits like "Feel Like Jumping" in 1968, "To Be
Young, Gifted And Black" in 1970 after the Bob Marley departure the "Electric Boogie" that inspired its own dance - "The Electric Slide". She continues to make records that matter, Marcia is one of the most
successful female vocalist in the history of reggae music,
Rita Marley has enjoyed a successful solo career in her own right. In 1991 her the album ‘We Must Carry On’, garnered a Grammy nomination and her most recent recording paid tribute to her husband Robert Nesta
Marley aka Bob Marley titled Rita Marley Sings Bob Marley...and Friends.
Judy Mowatt had recorded widely in both soul and reggae styles. She had the honor of being the first women to record at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong studio in Kingston that produced Black Woman. It was the first time
that a female artist had produced her own album in Jamaica and brought her a Grammy nomination. On 25 October 1999 Mowatt was awarded the Order Of Distinction (Office Class) for her contribution to Jamaican
music.
Special Guest Artist Thandiswa Mazwai released her first solo album Zabalaza by Ultra Records in the US on the Escondida label in February 2006. The lead singer from the formidable pop group Bongo Maffin, she
had performed all over the world and shared the stage with musical icons such as Stevie Wonder, the Marley clan, Sean Paul, amongst others. Zabalaza elegantly fuses various musical genres, from traditional Xhosa rhythms, and the thumping beats of kwaito, to gospel, R&B, hip-hop, raga. In 2005 Thandiswa picked up a South African Music Award and a Kora Award. In 2006 Zabalaza was nominated for a International Reggae and World Music Award (IRAWMA). This will be Thandiswa’s debut solo performance in the US.
